The Hyde Street Youth Band is a community brass band located in Footscray. The band is the oldest youth band in Australia having started in 1928 as the band for the Hyde Street School before later becoming an independent entity. The band has a proud history of community performance and competing in both State and National Band Championships and is the current National and Victorian Junior C Grade Champions and has recently been promoted to Junior B Grade.
The band is always keen for new members both those with experience and those who have never played before and boasts a training band which develops and mentors novice players to a standard to join the main band.
Hyde Street has a fantastic web site which contains loads of info about the band and anyone interested in finding out more should visit the link below. Today the Hyde Street Youth Band is only able to exist thanks to the generous support of our community and corporate sponsors and we would like to recognise the Seddon Community Bendigo Bank Branch for their ongoing support over many years.
Hyde St. traditionally opens SedFest each year and we welcome them back again for our 20th anniversary. They will perform at 11:10am on our Community Stage #2 (Victoria St. near Buckley). Prior, they will play-on-the-march through the festival precinct!
